G-Hill Life.....Bird Watch

We have one bird feeder outside our kitchen window and it sees a lot of action.
Mostly the regulars... finches, sparrows, doves and of course the dreaded cow bird.
But this year we have had a big assortment of birdies! So many cardinals (I love cardinals!)
Tonnes of Blue Jays, Rose Breasted Grosbeaks, Orioles, Hummingbirds
and today we had an Indigo Bunting... sooooo beautiful.

Thank You!

Danke!
Tak!
Ta!
to all my readers out there in the interweb.
My little blog had a steady growth of traffic last month and I really appreciate you stopping by to check it out! I started it as a diary of sorts, a very detailed baby book-mostly just for myself,
documenting my trials and triumphs of Oliver's first year.

I didn't document my pregnancy very well and I wish I had more pictures from the birth and maybe a video. Next time I won't make these mistakes! I thought I would remember EVERYTHING that it would be ingrained in my brain forever but I just don't remember the details as vividly as I want to.

So.. thanks again for reading our little blog about our G-Hill Life!

Obsession and Other Ramblings

My latest food obsession is Kashi soft baked bars and granola bars.... yummy!

You can actaully pronounce all the ingredients, there's an expiry date and they are pretty affordable costing about $4/box at the grocery store. Of course they do come on sale from time to time and when they do I stock up! Like today, I loaded up on both the blackberry and strawberry soft baked bars... pantry is stocked.

H20 update

I am pretty happy and impressed with my progress so far. I have cut out a lot of coffee from my day and trust me with the amount of (very little) sleep I have been getting lately this is HUGE!  I usually have 2 cups of coffee in the morning and maybe a small one in the afternoon (but not everyday) and then I switch to green tea. The first cup of tea is the strongest but I use the same tea bag for most of the day so each cup becomes more diluted until I am basically drinking slightly flavoured water. It's definitely become part of my day and not something I spend too much time thinking about... which was the whole point of the challenge!

Next on my list is to cut down on my sugar intake- I am such a sugar junkie!

It's Easter time... which means lots of yummy dinners and visiting with family. And lots of sugar, I guess my new challenge will have to wait until after this weekend. We had a great dinner at my Grandma's house although Oliver was very tired and restless. I think tooth # 8 is also reaking some havoc in his mouth cause he's been ultra clingy these past few days. Of course we have been doing lots of visiting and there's been a lot of new faces and ones he hasn't seen in a while. Oliver doesn't like people all up in his business either, he likes to take it all in on his own time and hates to held for long periods (like anything longer than a minute heehee)... it totally cramps his style so to held by a bunch of strangers is definitely a no go!

This pic was from Christmas but since this post is a bunch of random things mashed together I thought it was a good time to put it in.

H2O Challenge

I don't know why but I never seem to drink enough water in a day. I don't drink pop and only drink juice once in a while (other than a wee bit of O.J in my a.m smoothie).
I'll tell ya what I do drink a tonne of is.....
COFFEE and not just cause I need the caffine (though yes I am undeniably addicted)
I just love the taste. So much. I could drink a whole pot all to myself. Love, love, love it.
I wish I was drinking some now instead of this glass of water haha. Don't get me wrong I do drink water during the day just not enough and oddly mostly at night which really comes back to bite me at 3:00 am when I get up because I have to go pee.

So I am giving myself an H2O challenge-
up my intake of the hydrating stuff during the day and decrease my intake of the dehydrating stuff, my beloved cafe.

My beverage count is as follows.... 2 glasses of water this morning, 1 bottle while out and about this afternoon and 2 glasses so far this evening.
Coffee count for the day is-2 cups of Joe this morning and 1 glorious cup this afternoon.

My goal is to get to at least 8 glasses a day without even having to think about it,
just straight up easy 8 glasses.
So begins the challenge...

I was feeling all spring-y the other day before we got another butt load of snow... uggggghhhhh

Naturally Organic?

I watched this segment on Marketplace- Canada's Consumer Watchdog the other day and was stunned! I know that some  a lot of companies have jumped on the ECO bandwagon using clever marketing to portraying natural or organic products and in truth are not. But I was shocked to see some of the products on the top ten list of Marletplace's lousy labels! Seventh Generation chlorine free diaper- they actually dye their diaper a beige- brown colour to look more earthy.... whaaaaat? seriously!  and Huggies "Natural" baby wipes actually has a chemical in them that is on  Health Canada's Hot List ie list of dangerous chemicals to avoid!
Check out the link below to watch the programme....

Time to read those labels, I know I will be taking a closer look at what I am buying. Especially the products claiming to be organic since they tend to be a lot more $$$$. Yikes what a sham!

Here's a little somethin' that's not a sham and totally organic!

It was all very cute until he peed on the floor! He has been loving his naked self these days and it's very fine line between just enough and too much naked time heehee.
